German Cannibal Meiwes
Sentenced to Life
in Prison

(Update1)

May 9 (Bloomberg) -- A Frankfurt court sentenced Armin Meiwes, a German convicted of killing another man and eating parts of the body, to life in prison today in a retrial of the so-called cannibal case.

Meiwes, 44, was found guilty of murder, the court said. Public prosecutors had sought a harsher sentence after a lower court in January 2004 found him guilty of manslaughter and sentenced him to eight and a half years in prison.

Germany's Federal Court of Justice referred the case to the Regional Court in Frankfurt after a request by the prosecutor who argued Meiwes used the killing to satisfy his sexual needs. This was the first trial for cannibalism in the country.

A key piece of evidence in the trial was Meiwes' videotape of the whole incident.

Meiwes, a computer technician, met victim Bernd Juergen Brandes through the Internet. Brandes, an engineer from Berlin, expressed his desire to die and be eaten by another person via e-mail, Meiwes had told the court in the earlier trial.

Meiwes, who served 12 years in the army as a platoon sergeant, also said he regretted what he had done and that it had been Brandes's wish to die. He carried out the act at his home in the western town of Rotenburg in March 2001.

Last March, a German court banned the screening of a horror film based on the true story of a cannibal six days before the planned cinema release. Meiwes requested the ban, saying the movie infringed on his privacy rights.

wait a second i have to stop lochen hier

you must pay more schellst attention to the local news, you are slower to learn these things than the two irresponsible teenagers on Planet Yobbo in the Dwingeloo-2 Galaxy.

do we taste like chicken?

i am convinced that before they commit these ghastly abominable crimes, people like Meiwes first consult professional newspaper editors to ask them how to be REALLY FAMOUS.

anybody can do something to get arrested.

but you need Professional Journalists to advise you how to get this famous. This was a crime which was invented by tabloid journalists.

Agence-Vleeptron Presse is not Deutschland-bashing. The United States of America has had many famous cannibals. In our fiction and movies, Hannibal Lecter is a 100% red-blooded American. (He loves to listen to the piano music of Glenn Gould.)

When I went to the honky-tonk Ripleys Believe-It-Or-Not Wax Museum on the Canada side of Niagara Falls, I was So Proud to be an American. The first exhibit inside the door was Charles Manson.
