Human-Animal Hybrids Must Be Stopped Now

On "The Daily Show," this was Jon Stewart's favorite part of President Bush's State of the Union Address -- the traditional presidential detour into Crazytown.

Here's President Bush (from www.whitehouse.gov ) warning America about the dangers of out-of-control Evil Science just around the corner:

"A hopeful society has institutions of science and medicine that do not cut ethical corners, and that recognize the matchless value of every life. Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms, creating or implanting embryos for experiments, creating human-animal hybrids, and buying, selling, or patenting human embryos. Human life is a gift from our Creator -- and that gift should never be discarded, devalued or put up for sale." (Applause.)

The President's Science Adviser and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy is the laser physicist Dr. John H. Marburger III. Presumably, he checked off on this paragraph and gave it to President Bush to read out loud in front of everybody. Presumably he also advised President Bush to publicly advocate teaching Intelligent Design in public schools, so our kids could learn Twice As Much Science. (Right now they only learn about Natural Selection.)
